1 Orthognathic surgery Before and After Photos
Procedure: Orthognathic surgery
This gentleman was referred to Dr. McLain for orthognathic/jaw surgery by his orthodontist. The patient was being treated for his dento-facial deformity with braces and required surgery to correct the abnormal relationship between his upper and lower jaws. At the initial consultation, Dr. McLain explained the benefits of orthognathic/jaw surgery and discussed the procedure in detail. Next, models were made of his upper and lower jaws and teeth, then photos and some simple radiographs were taken. The surgery was first performed entirely on a computer model of the patient and on the models of the jaws. Surgical guides were then fabricated from these models. This makes the actual surgical procedure more accurate and efficient. The patient successfully underwent upper and lower jaw surgery with the intent to not only improve his bite, but to also improve his facial balance. After a relatively short recovery, he returned to work and normal daily activities. He completed his orthodontic treatment several months after surgery and the braces were removed. His final result shows a more balanced and attractive facial appearance as well as a more functional bite.
